Engineering knowledge for practical impact
The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering is one of the flagship departments within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology and a pioneer in Biomedical Engineering education in Uganda. The Department is committed to advancing healthcare through engineering, innovation, research, and technology development. By integrating engineering principles with medicine and biological sciences, the Department develops professionals capable of designing, developing, managing, and improving healthcare technologies that enhance patient care and strengthen health systems.
The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to equip students with competencies in medical devices, clinical engineering, artificial intelligence, medical imaging, digital health, rehabilitation engineering, biomechanics, biomaterials, healthcare technology management, and biomedical innovation. It is proud to host Uganda's first Master's Programme in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD programme in Biomedical Engineering.
Students benefit from modern teaching laboratories, simulation facilities, clinical attachments, multidisciplinary research opportunities, and strong collaborations with hospitals, government agencies, industry, and international universities.
