Development and Performance Evaluation of a Banana Peel–Moringa–Cactus Biocomposite Water Treatment System for Low-Resource Settings

Summary

Access to clean water remains a major challenge in low-resource settings, where conventional treatment technologies are often costly and inaccessible. This project aims to establish the efficacy and optimal formulation of a novel, eco-friendly water treatment blend combining banana peels, Moringa oleifera, and cactus seed powders. Utilizing locally sourced, biodegradable bio-coagulants and bio-adsorbents, the research will evaluate the composite powder’s capacity to reduce turbidity, remove heavy metals, and eliminate microbial pathogens from contaminated water sources. Expected outcomes include identifying the optimal ratio of the three natural components, developing a standardized, low-cost preparation protocol, and validating a safe, sustainable water treatment solution.
